Overview

Art is a deeply rewarding and enriching subject that fosters creativity, resilience and problem solving. This a fun and exciting subject that allows pupils to be curious and creative. Creativity is one of the top employability skills in the UK and want to equip our pupils with this skill so that they are confident and ambitious in their lives after school.

This is a practical subject where pupils will learn how to use a range of different media, examine art theory, and explore personal and conceptual ideas. Pupils will develop their skills in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, installation, printmaking, ceramics and mixed media. It builds independence, problem-solving, and visual communication skills, linking personal expression to broader cultural contexts.

Pupils also engage in critical and contextual studies, learning to analyse and connect their work to historical and contemporary artists, different styles, and relevant social or cultural contexts. A strong understanding and application of visual elements such as colour, line, form, tone, texture, and composition are also developed.
