Overview
History plays a pivotal role in the curriculum as it gives our pupils a context to place themselves both locally, nationally and globally.
Knowledge of the past introduces pupils to exciting events and interesting people who have shaped the society we live in. History creates curiosity and gives pupils the cultural capital to engage with current events in an informed manner.
The significant turning points and individuals studied through history can inspire our pupils to overcome difficulties, become tolerant individuals and have ambition to impact society.
The academic study of history equips our pupils to critically analyse sources of information for their validity, to develop informed judgments on past events and explain their opinions.
At Key Stage 3, we will study a knowledge focused chronological framework of British history with some links to history of the wider world. The curriculum will incorporate the second-order historical concepts such as causation, significance and change and continuity. Pupils will also develop the disciplinary knowledge of using evidence to support interpretations and assessing sources for usefulness in an enquiry.
At Key Stage 4, we study Edexcel GCSE with Medicine Through Time, Early Elizabethan England, The American West and Weimar and Nazi Germany.
